The ungated level crossing is protected by new crossing lights as 66785 slowly comes over the road. There is a weighing device on the track just inside the compound. The branch to the quarry and former cement works came off the line from Great Shelford to Hitchin via Royston at nearby Foxton.
The type 5 has 20 empty JNA large bogie boxes on the drawbar. The quarry is being infilled with non hazardous spoil and rubble from the London Crossrail and HS2 projects and it is expected to run until about 2037 when the job will be complete and the site restored with topsoil. Part of the quarry face will be retained as a climbing wall. All materials are being brought in by rail, some 1500 tonnes at a time. 11/5/2022
