The Southerners are coming, ED's in town

An unusual visitor to Scotland was a pair of former Southern Region class 73 electro-diesel locomotives. GBRf operate several members of the class in England and they had a contract to move an HST set. The 73's were utilised as they are fitted with buckeye couplers and Pullman rubbing plates and were used as translator vehicles. It caused quite a stir so after going back to work after 25 days holiday I blagged another day off to go and see them!!! 1/11/2005

  • 73205 is on the back of the coaching stock as the train speeds off into the sunset! The reason for the class 73 locos being used is because they are fitted with the Pullman rubbing plates and buckeye couplers so they can couple to the mkIII stock which does not have buffers. After an overnight recess in Willesden the set will continue to Plymouth Laira the following day.
