The Great Britain Rail tours

In April of 2007 the Railway Touring Company, with West Coast Railways, ran an ambitious series of separate railtours which covered the whole country hauled by several different steam locomotives on consecutive days, they called it "The Great Britain". What started out as a one off has repeated itself every year since. I have been involved with several of them as support crew with A4 60009 and K4 61994 and photographed others when able.

    The short train crosses Markinch Viaduct just to the south of the station. At Perth the diesel will come off and the K1 will pilot the tour loco to Inverness.
    A short time after the K1/37 combination passed the main Great Britain X tour comes into view. Black Five 45212 fronts 1Z60 0937 Edinburgh to Inverness via Dundee.
    The driver has steam on for the climb through Markinch station and on to Lochmuir Summit.
