Last down train of the day for me and the evening light paints Deltic 55022 as it passes over Sandy Hills Lane and shakes the little cottage that is built into the formation. 55022 runs into Corfe with 2H22 1650 off Norden to Harmans Cross. Despite earlier trains running about 20 minutes late, by this time it had slipped to about 50 minutes.
Time to repair to Wareham for food and to return for the beer!! 8/5/2009
The next day and I start off up the East Hill. The parish church of St. Edward, King and Martyr dominates the centre of the village. The Church was probably built during the 12th century. The earliest known incumbent is recorded in 1280. It was named after St Edward the Martyr who was murdered on 18th March 978 on the orders of Queen Alfthryth, his stepmother. Most of the village, and the castle, is owned by the National Trust having been bequeathed by the Bankes family in the 1980's.
