Every year on the first weekend after the May Bank Holiday, the Swanage Railway hosts its now famous diesel gala and beer festival. Wall to wall diesel action with visiting locos and the home fleet mixed in with a beer festival.     In superb afternoon sunshine, 55022 comes off the loop line at Swanage and will back down onto the stock in the platform.
    Newly restored and old stalwart Bulleid pacifics 34070 "Manston" and 34027 "Eddystone" stand on the goods shed road unwanted over the diesel weekend.
    My notes say the timetable is now running about 20 minutes late as 55022 departs Swanage with 2N18 booked off at 1430 for Norden. The signalman hands over the token to Harmans Cross to the secondman.
