2009 Swanage Railway Diesel Gala

Every year on the first weekend after the May Bank Holiday, the Swanage Railway hosts its now famous diesel gala and beer festival. Wall to wall diesel action with visiting locos and the home fleet mixed in with a beer festival. With a weekend of clear skies and constant sunshine and a stunning selection of fine ales, what could be better? 8-10/5/2009

    My notes say the timetable is now running about 20 minutes late as 55022 departs Swanage with 2N18 booked off at 1430 for Norden. The signalman hands over the token to Harmans Cross to the secondman.
    With the token safely on board the driver can notch up to gain speed away fro the station and the climb to Harmans Cross.
    The next arrival is Peak 45060, running in with 2S15 1430 off Norden passing Standard 4MTT 80078 on shed turntable. A Deltic, class 31, 26, 20, 45 would never had traversed the Swanage branch in BR days. Preservation has brought wonderful variety.
