The next day and I start off up the East Hill. The parish church of St. Edward, King and Martyr dominates the centre of the village. The Church was probably built during the 12th century. The earliest known incumbent is recorded in 1280. It was named after St Edward the Martyr who was murdered on 18th March 978 on the orders of Queen Alfthryth, his stepmother. Most of the village, and the castle, is owned by the National Trust having been bequeathed by the Bankes family in the 1980's.
First train of the second day and 20107 comes through the over bridge on the common at Town's End with 2N01, 0850 Swanage to Norden and it is right on time!!
The up home is off for 20107 to enter the station loop for its station stop. Right in front is School Crossing and a very popular spot for photographers.
