LNER A3 pacific 4472 runs north on the ECML with the Royal Scotsman stock and a private charter from St Pancras to Inverness spread over four days. This leg is 1Z98 0702 York to Edinburgh. The train passes Inveresk on a falling 1 in 300 gradient with 37416 tucked inside. The stock for this private charter is the Royal Scotsman train. Okay this ISN'T the Highland Main Line but keep looking!! 18/10/2000
The tour was chartered by Holland and Holland, a company that makes shotguns. The passengers have been dropped at Edinburgh Waverley station and the train runs to the Royal Scotsman sidings and loco depot at Millerhill via the Edinburgh Suburban route. Arthurs Seat is in the background as the train passes Niddrie West Junction.
The next day 4472 headed for Inverness and a place in railway history as the first and only A3 to make it to the Highland Capital. The early morning sun glints off the apple green pacific as it passes over Markinch Viaduct with the safety valves lifting. 19/10/2000
