A lengthy stop was taken at Dalwhinnie where the passengers rejoined the train, water was taken and a service train passed. By now the weather had improved greatly as 4472 continues north. The afternoon sun glints off the side of the tender and steam from the injector. The River Truim passes by with an old pack horse bridge in the foreground.
The backlit exhaust puts the whole train in shade as it runs past Kincraig just north of the loop. A number of new houses have been built just here and the shot is just about gone now.
Another water stop was taken at Aviemore before the next big challenge....Slochd Summit. Here 4472 catches the glint as the driver speeds north about a mile to the south of Carr Bridge station. Judging by the speed it was doing here I guessed that the planned stop at Carr Bridge station was not going to happen and the train would take a run at Slochd. I was right.
In late 2019 this shot is gone as the trees have grown and now obscure the railway.
