Inside Southall shed and between trips is BR Standard Britannia class 7 70013 "Oliver Cromwell". This loco is part of the National Collection. Also visible is "Duchess" 46233 "Duchess of Sutherland" in steam.
West Coast Railways 47237 sits under the shed roof shut down. The wind blows through the shed and it can get very cold indeed.
Despite being very tired after almost 24 hours on the go with No9 I spent a bit of time getting these wonderful night shots. 70013 faces 46233.
Going outside and Princess Coronation class pacific 46233 simmers away. The loco is in BR green livery with cabside yellow stripe meaning it can not work below the wires south of Crewe, well back in 1967-68 that would apply but not now.
I must admit I do really like the look of the Standards, the Britannia's particularly. 70013 parked up right at the edge of the shed.
70013 and 47237 both at rest.
Also outside and in steam is A4 60009 "Union of South Africa". The loco had done a trip the previous day from London Victoria to Swanage and back. Ross and myself were part of the support crew, this and the trip the following day would be our last ones.
A group photo with 60009, 46233, 70013 and 47237 at Southall.
Later in the morning and 46233 has been out and back on a turning move, the reason it was in steam.
The mighty Duchess slowly moves past No9. I have done a trip with this loco and rode on the footplate between Carlisle and Preston over Shap albeit light engine. 70013 has visited Thornton shed and I have placed a few shovels of coal on the fire so I tenuously claim to have fired it.
