A west bound freight comes by as the evening wears on and the shadows lengthen. EWS 66020 approaches with 6 BYA covered steel wagons, 6M19 1650 Hoo Junction to Bescot enterprise.
Easter Monday and the railway is running a Sunday service. So Electrostars 375806 and 375820 enter Canterbury West station with 2W36 1416 SuO Margate to London Charis Cross. The sets pass below the impressive signalbox situated high on a gantry spanning the lines. The 'box was constructed in 1927 by the Southern Railway to replace two earlier ones at either end of the station. The 'box is reputed to be the one that was formerly at Blackfriars Junction on the South Eastern Railway, but others believe it to be a standard Southern Railway design. It contains a 72 lever frame of South Eastern and Chatham Railway design.
