Severn Tunnel Junction and Newport

A week on the former Great Western Railway with some classic locations. To say Severn Tunnel Junction is a shadow of its former self is an understatement, whilst it is still a busy location for freight, long gone are the sidings and loco depot. Here the line from Gloucester forms a junction with the route through the Severn Tunnel, hence the name. This was my first visit to this location. 20/6/2005

    A healthy train of mainly JSA steel wagons approaches with 66177 at the head end.  6M44 is a Llanwern to Round Oak working consisting of finished steel for various uses.
    43161 and 43015 have powered their train out of the depths of the Severn Tunnel and into the sunshine on the Welsh side of the river.  The service is 1B40 1345 from Paddington to Swansea.
    The guard stands by the rear door of 153326 as he watches his passengers.  The Regional Railways liveried bubblecar forms 2G68 1510 Cardiff Central to Gloucester.  These units were built from some members of the class 155 sprinter sets.
