Return to the Somerset and Dorset Railway

I never travelled on the S&D, it closed just after my fourth birthday. But I have driven along the line visiting the stations and tunnels and some of the notable viaducts several times, not always taking photos sadly. These pictures are from two trips, in 2019 and 2021 plus a few from much earlier trips and we go from the south to the north.

And how it looked in July 1983 with a lower fence. I am standing on what would have been the up road. This was the station masters house and the station buildings beyond. The up side buildings appear to have been demolished. A similar view from May 1963...... https://railway-photography.smugmug.com/Somerset-Dorset-Railway/Shepton-to-Evercreech/Evercreech-Jct-Evercreeh-New/i-ZrbvCR6
The rear of the station buildings on what was the down platform.
This is all that remains of Evercreech New station. A footpath crossed the line at the end of the platforms and that footpath still exists. The stonework and bricks with the iron railings are part of the south end of the up platform, it is the end of the ramp. This view shows the end of the ramp from the other side, visible on the left of the shot https://railway-photography.smugmug.com/Somerset-Dorset-Railway/Shepton-to-Evercreech/Evercreech-Jct-Evercreeh-New/i-zZbt8sr
The rest of the site has been cleared and houses built upon it.
The station opened in 1874 with the completion of the extension of the S&D from the nearby Evercreech Junction to Bath. It closed in March 1966.
