Milford Yard, Selby and Gascoigne Wood

Day 2 of my mini North Yorkshire tour and I start off at a place I never visited when I lived just a few miles away at RAF Church Fenton. South Milford Yard is a major stabling point for loaded and empty coal trains. Selby station is a shadow of its former self and Gascoigne Wood is just a massive white elephant with the closure of the Selby coalfield. 8/8/2006

    With the closure of the Selby coalfield, the sidings are now used to stable rakes of hoppers. Previously this was a very busy loading point as all the pits in the coal field were linked below ground and all the coal came to the surface here.
    66531 raises the echoes with 4D24 1815 Ferrybridge Power Station to Immingham Docks empty HHA coal hoppers.
    Sprinters 156444 and 156484 wear the old Northern Trains livery and part of their diagram has them working 2R73 1814 York to Hull.
