Manchester Piccadilly between trains. rd

During a journey break enroute from Fife to Dorset, on 6/5/10, for the Swanage Railway Diesel Gala and Beer Festival I spent a few hours between trains at Manchester's Piccadilly station. After the gala I made the same journey north again with a few more hours on the platform at Piccadilly on 10/5/10.

  • I am very confident I have identified this working correctly as I am amazed that Northern Trains would employ a 125mph capable unit on a class 2 working that could be handled by a Pacer or Sprinter unit. However Adelante 180103 slips away from the through platforms with 2H03, 1423 from Preston to Hazel Grove. I can only assume it is a fill in turn.

    I am very confident I have identified this working correctly as I am amazed that Northern Trains would employ a 125mph capable unit on a class 2 working that could be handled by a Pacer or Sprinter unit. However Adelante 180103 slips away from the through platforms with 2H03, 1423 from Preston to Hazel Grove. I can only assume it is a fill in turn.

  • Not a great deal of freight passes through the station and over the viaducts beyond, but I was fortunate to capture one working. The doyen of the Freightliner class 66 loco's, 66501, fronts 4O29 1518 from Manchester's Trafford Park terminal to Southampton.

Arriva's 1244 departure from Llandudno, 1H88, has arrived at its destination, just as Northern's 1452 departure to Buxton, 2H96 gets away. 175102 and 150270 are the units concerned.
