THIS is what I came out to see, my very first class 800 bi-mode Azuma unit. Set No 800105 crosses through the northern cantilever with the front clearing the north portal.
The working is an empty set running as 5Q49 1628 Craigentinny to Aberdeen and will be used for crew training in Aberdeen.
This is a nine coach unit that can operate on the overhead 25kV wires and also with its onboard diesel units for when clear of the wires. So when introduced on the Aberdeen and Inverness routes, no longer with the trains run from London to Edinburgh under the wires on diesel power.
