The working is 5Z41 0935 Leuchars to Leuchars via Townhill Up Goods Yard ECS of the Royal Scotsman. I am guessing the man on the balcony is the guard and he will tell the driver by radio when the trains is safely inside the loop.
The train had travelled from Dunkeld to Leuchars so the passengers could enjoy a day of golf watching at St Andrews Open Championship. The train was booked to recess here for 5 hours with the loco running round and returning the way it came. That was the plan.
A few hours later and I have returned to Townhill Yard which is located in the area called Halbeath, Townhill is a few miles away. 66746 is visible through the heat haze of a very hot day having been uncoupled and moved forward to clear the loop and run back to tie onto the back. The shunter is waiting for that to happen but for reason or reasons unknown it did not happen and 66746 went back on the front.
