150252 comes over Charlestown Viaduct and slows for its Dunfermline stop. It is working 2G51, a class 2 local service clockwise round the Fife Circle to and from Edinburgh leaving at 1053. 17/6/1998
The set pauses at a deserted Dunfermline Town station. The other station in the town was Dunfermline Upper on the former Alloa line which closed to passengers on 7/10/1968.
An empty rake of MGR hoppers climbs away from the shoreline of Oakum Bay and will head inland for Dunfermline. 56033 powers 6D72 1430 Longannet Power Station to Mossend Yard.
Before the advent of the class 66 locomotives, traction on the Longannet Power Station turns were in the hands of class 56 and 60 locomotives and also class 37's. Tug 60063 heads 6G76 1530 Longannet to Thornton Yard empties. 17/6/1998
An unidentified pair of class 158 sprinters run down Falkland Road Bank with 1A82 1810 Edinburgh to Dyce. 7/7/1998
A down GNER service tears down the 1 in 95 gradient of Falkland Road Bank. The train is 1S30 and left London Kings Cross at 1400.
The running gear of 158733 is lost in the long grass of the embankment behind Kettlebridge. The unit is heading for Edinburgh with 1B36 1910 off Perth via the Newburgh branch. It would have left after an Inverness to Glasgow Queen Street had come into the station to connect with it.
Another anonymous GNER HST set, this time heading from Aberdeen back to Edinburgh and then servicing at Craigentinny depot. The train is 1B75 1815 off the Granite city. The location is the bottom of Falkland Road Bank at Kingskettle.
The low evening sun catches the side of the unit and picks out the open window. This ScotRail working is 1H43 1910 Edinburgh to Inverness via Aberdeen.
Down at Ladybank 150245 leans into the sharp curve on the approach into the station with a class 2 local stopper from Dundee to Edinburgh. 2L80 left Dundee at 1952.
On the Newburgh branch, a class 158 sprinter crosses over the A91 with an evening train to Inverness. 1H19 is booked off Edinburgh at 1940 for the Highland Capital. 7/7/1998
The warm summer afternoon and the willow herb is out in bloom painting a colourful scene to the cutting on Lochmuir Bank. 158723 comes down grade at 1 in 101 1/2 with 1B28 1216 Aberdeen to Edinburgh train. 1/8/1998
A short time after the previous shot is a scabby RES liveried 47635 in charge to the VSOE Pullman train on a Edinburgh - Perth - Dundee - Edinburgh charter. 1/8/1998
A sunny Sunday afternoon and a Sundays Only Aberdeen to Kings Cross GNER working, 1E12 1150 off, passes Lydox Mill near Dairsie. 7/2/1999
158738 is about to run off the Newburgh branch at Ladybank with 1B30 1449 Perth to Edinburgh. 26/2/1999
My very first photo of a class 66, type 5 locomotive recently introduced into the UK by EWS. 66032 passes the former NBR carriage sheds at Ladybank with a rake of loaded pipes, 6X88 0635 Hartlepool to Georgemas Junction.
The going away shot of 66032 just on the Newburgh Branch heading for Inverness. Due to the nature of the load the train is routed via the Fife Circle because of the kink in Kinghorn Tunnel.
A down GNER high speed train passes the site of Lochmuir Summit loop with 1S20 1030 Kings Cross to Aberdeen. The loop was on the down side of the line with a signalbox at the south end. 12/3/1999
A ScotRail sprinter unit, 158736, makes its Markinch stop whilst working 1B32 1310 off Aberdeen to Edinburgh. The former listed North British Railway goods shed is looking very much the worse for wear since the A4 steam loco left in 1993. 19/3/1999
Class 2 local service 2K61 runs into Markinch formed by unit 150284. The train left Edinburgh at 1445 and will terminate here. It will run just north of the station and cross onto the up line before returning to Edinburgh.
43112 leads the down "Northern Lights" through Markinch at speed. The train details is 1S20 1030 Kings Cross to Aberdeen. It doesn't stop here after Kirkcaldy its next stop is Leuchars.
An unusual combination of class 156 and 158 climb away from Markinch working 1H15 1510 Edinburgh to Inverness. The units and 156457 and 158748. The class 156 may be returning to Inverness after maintenance at Haymarket shed.
An up HST approaches the crossover at the north end of the station with 1E19 1455 Aberdeen to Kings Cross.
Turning around for the going away shot as the set blasts through the station. The disused sidings and junction for the former Leslie and Auchmuty branches are on the right. The track is still in place to the Tullis Russell paper mill, but no longer used
56018 is laid up between duties at Thornton Yard. 11/6/1999
Transrail branded 37799 emerges from beneath the A92 Thornton bypass with what I believe to be 6D10 0956 Longannet to Mossend via Thornton Yard enterprise service. If it is then it is running quite late.
The train gains the southbound road of the main line at Thornton South Junction. The rake is 12 tanks and hoppers probably loaded with flyash from Longannet power station for making into cement. 11/6/1999
66113 stands at Thornton Yard and is quite literally fresh out of the box. It arrived at Newport Docks on 29th of May, less than two weeks before this photo was taken. It crossed the Atlantic Ocean from Canada on board the MV Stellamare. 12/6/1999
