Colton Junction and Church Fenton

Week two of the 2006 summer tour and this part of the world is well known to me as I used to live at nearby RAF Church Fenton in the mid 1980's and never wanted to leave. The half Yorkshireman in me had a yearning to stay, but the RAF had other ideas and I did get moved away. This was however a great day on an old stomping ground and I relished the traction but wished I could be back in 1985.......with my digital camera. Sigh!!! 7/8/2006

The former North Eastern Railway built signalbox would have been visible in this shot before it was demolished, it was located to the left of the tree on the east side of the line partially hidden by the rear of 158760. The unit forms 1P55 1601 Newcastle to Manchester Airport.
158814 speeds through the deserted platform and station at Church Fenton heading for Scarborough, 1P48 1604 from Manchester Airport.
My first visit here was 22 years ago, at the time of this visit, and I would have seen all manner of different loco and DMU classes and steam locos too. 158975 runs on the through road with 1M68 1646 Scarborough to Liverpool Lime Street.
