Beattock to Druimuachdar - A tale of two summits

Black 8 2-8-0 48151 was booked to run from Carnforth to Inverness to position the loco for its part in the Great Britain Railtour and to haul a private charter wedding special for a very rich man with no dress sense. His bride, so the published photos showed, was just as lacking in the fashion department. But the movement provided a good day out chasing the train over Beattock and Druimuachdar Summits. 13/3/07

Despite the class 8 power and only four coaches, 37248 provides some assistance on this 1 in 100 ssection. Now the plan was to get ahead and catch the train at Dalnaraoch, but due to heavy traffic it was not to be. The train passed there in BRILLIANT sunshine and light, ho hum!!
The final location and the light is fading fats. 48151 runs up the final few yards to Druimuachdar, climbing at 1 in 78, and just at this point the driver closes the regulator!!
Still with several hundred yards of the climb to go, the steam loco is coasting with 37248 pushing at the rear. The train passes onwards to Inverness and I would see the loco there in a few weeks time for the Great Britain railtour.
