GNER 91114 propels its train south at Spittal with Berwick Law rising 614 feet dominating the scene. The train is 1E19 1500 Edinburgh to Kings Cross.
A southbound Cross Country working passes by with 221104 forming 1O30 1505 Edinburgh to Southampton.
A northbound GNER working to Glasgow Central comes sweeping round the bend by Spittal with 91127 leading 1S13 1100 off Kings Cross. The scene here is in full sun whilst Berwick Law is in deep shadow.

A class 2 local working leans well into the curve with EMU 322481 forming 2Y07 1520 North Berwick to Edinburgh all stations stopper. The sun is starting to light up the Law which is a volcanic plug.
These units have replaced the temporary measure of using a class 90 loco and a short rake of mkIII coaches with a DVT.
The set passes a southbound freight hauled by 66186.
66186 hauls a rake of empty cartics as 6M85 1308 Bathgate to Washwood Heath empty car flats and is running about an hour late.
A few minutes after 66186 goes by we are treated to another freight. 60097 leads 6E30 1333 Dalzell to Lackenby empty steel carriers.
The EWS liveried type 5 appears to be losing its EWS lettering and number digits.
The train is made up of around 15-20 BDA steel slab carriers. Due to the weight of the loaded train this is a class 60 turn.
And now the main event which sadly is in shadow but Berwick Law is in sun.
Deltic 55022 Royal Scots Grey leans into the curve with the Kings Cross to Edinburgh leg of a tour to Inverness, 1Z55 0755 off.
Despite the loco running almost to time, all is not well. Just after the Doncaster stop one engine stopped working and it was discovered that it had "put a leg out of bed" and a piston had gone through the crank case. It was decided to keep going on just the one engine.
A side on shot of 55022. At Edinburgh 40145 was waiting to take the tour forward to Inverness. The original plan was to top and tail with the class 55 and 40 but 55022 came off and 47245 which was on the back took the place of the Deltic going onto Inverness.
