Deenethorpe was opened in October 1943 and was assigned to the USAAF Eighth Air Force, 401st Heavy Bombardment Group flying the B17 Flying Fortress, they departed in August 1945. Deenethorpe remained in RAF and Royal Observer Corp use until 1963 when it closed.
