IWM Duxford

Ross and I had a superb day at the Imperial War Museum Duxford 20 odd years after our first visit. The sound of warbirds flying all day just added to the atmosphere. The vehicles in the Land Warfare building are in the Military Vehicles folder. 10/5/2022

    WK991 is Gloster Meteor F8 single seat fighter built in July 1953.  The F8 was a great improvement on the F4 having a longer fuselage, greater fuel capacity and a standard ejection seat.  It was a prolific frontline fighter in RAF squadron service, 1950–54.  WK991 was used as a target towing aircraft for many years of its service.
    This WW1 vintage aircraft is a Bristol F2b fighter built in 1918.  It is powered by a Rolls Royce V-12 Falcon III engine.  It saw action in the last weeks of the Great War with possibly 39 Squadron.  Its last flight was in May 1920 and came to the IWM in 1923.
    A German V1 flying bomb or Doodlebug or Buzzbomb and a section of ramp.
